Finding Beauty in the In-Between Moments

Life is often a collection of invisible, fleeting moments that fade over time. These in-between moments, although rarely remembered, are filled with beauty and significance. As I travel along the West Coast, I am constantly captivated by the breathtaking scenery between destinations. It is during these journeys that I stop to photograph or paint en plein air, immersing myself in the landscape’s allure. The purpose of my travel shifts from the destination to the experience itself — the beauty that exists along the way. These moments provide me with a deep connection to the natural world and inspire a sense of tranquility that I carry with me into the studio.

A Journey of Creative Independence

I follow my own creative path, unbound by the influence of a single mentor. Instead, I draw inspiration from the traditional masters like John Constable, J.M.W. Turner, Gustave Courbet, Lawren Harris, and Emily Carr. Louise Bourgeois, who created art to understand emotion and pain, resonates with me as I, too, find balance and understanding through my art. For me, the act of painting is a means of exploration and expression — a way to visually bring beauty to life and then release it, moving on to the next canvas.

Inspired by the Untouched Wilderness

As a professional landscape artist, I am deeply inspired by the untouched wilderness of the West Coast. This natural beauty, with its pristine and majestic landscapes, drives both my art and my purpose. Recently, I have been drawn to the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s protected lands, where I feel a profound sense of inspiration. Through my paintings, I aim to capture the raw and untamed essence of these lands, sharing with others the stunning beauty that few have the opportunity to experience firsthand.

A Commitment to Conservation

Supporting the preservation of these landscapes is a cause I hold dear. I proudly contribute a portion of my sales to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, working towards my personal goal of preserving an acre of land each year. In doing so, I hope to not only create art but also make a lasting impact by protecting the wild, untouched beauty that fuels my inspiration.
